WORKPLACE EMERGENCY PROCEDURE



Thought for the day!!! After resolving to work safely this year with a safety mindset and resolution to choose safety at all time, how will you respond to an emergency at your workplace­?



What is workplace emergency?  A workplace emergency is a sudden unexpected crisis in you place of work (usually involving danger) that requires immediate action.

An emergency procedure is a written set of instructions that outlines what workers and others at a workplace should do in an emergency.



All employees at every workplace must always know what to do in an emergency. Adequate information and awareness of the company’s emergency response plan or procedure is of utmost priority and importance. This usually ensures that risk to life and revenue loss is adequately minimized.



Workplace emergency plan usually involve the following:

In the event of an emergency, do the following:

  • Arrange for evacuation of employees
  • Render First Aid
  • Salvage and restore company operations

Or

If you ever discover a fire:

  • Raise alarm
  • Evacuate the building
  • Attack the fire with the extinguisher provided without compromise to personal safety
  • Switch off all electrical gadgets
  • Do not rush or push others
  • Go to the designated assembly point
  • Take a roll call



Please note that all workplaces are unique and different from each other, so the above steps may be slightly different in your organization.
