GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

This means of communication is communicated with the use of drawings, signage, posters, , pictorial symbols etc. health  and safety instructions , safety signs has been found to be effectively communicated through these means. Posters and signage can be used as training aids that have the ability to retain interest, encourage total concentration and impact simple messages which will be perfectly understood and easily remembered as well.

Graphic communication have gained international acceptance as an effective means of communication in workplaces and public area irrespective of language, ethnicity or racial divide.

Major limitations to this means of communication among others are:

  • Adequate training is compulsory in order to understand what the various signs represent
  • Posters and graphic can become out of date quickly so there is a need for regular replacements
  • They can be easily ignored due to over familiarity
  • Communicator is not seen in person or known in writing
  • Management authority or commitment is not established.

Effective and accurate communication is a must for a successful Health and Safety system in every organization. The three means of communication- verbal, written and graphic should be used to effectively communicate with the workforce.

The Communicator and the recipient both have a role to play for a successful dissemination of every information.

THE SUCCESS OF THE HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICE IN AN ORGANIZATION SOLELY DEPENDS ON EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.

  1. Graphic communication has proven overtime to pass safety information and increase awareness effectively. Companies should invest in it as it is easily understood and ensure they convey up-to-date information as well as follow latest ISO, ANZI, and OSHA standards.
